For short hoses and/or low viscosity oil, or if the flow of hydraulic fluid is intermittent or for only short periods of time, figures at the higher end of the Maximum Recommended Velocity range can be used.
Size The hose I.D. must be sized accurately to obtain the proper flow velocity. A flow that’s too slow results in sluggish system performance and a flow that’s too high causes excessive pressure drops, system damage, and leaks. The four-layer spiral wound hydraulic hose is extremely strong and is common in high-pressure, large-diameter hose asselies. This 4-wire hose is available up to a 5,000 psi rating at a 2-in. diameter, although sometimes 6-wire hose is used for such extreme requirements.
